The Cartier Awards entered its 19th year and are likened to the Oscars of the horse world.  The awards are determined by points earned in Pattern races combined with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists and votes from Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph readers.

The awards will be presented at Claridge's Hotel in Mayfair, London, on Tuesday, November 17.

Ghanaati (Giant's Causeway USA) is the clear leader of Cartier Three-Year-Old Fillies over Stacelita, Elusive Wave and Sariska

Sea The Stars Ire (Cape Cross Ire), who won the Guineas-Derby double, the first horse since Nashwan in 1989, has tied with Mastercraftsman Ire (Danehill Dancer Ire) for Cartier Three-Year-Old Colts.

Vision D'Etat Fr (Chichicastenango Fr) is leading Cartier Older Horse, Yeats Ire (Sadler's Wells Ire) Cartier Stayer, Art Connoisseur Ire (Lucky Story USA) Cartier Sprinter.

Ghanaati, Sea The Stars and Mastercraftsman are tied for the lead of Cartier Horse of the Year with Vision D'Etat and Le Havre Ire (Noverre USA) not so far behind.

These placings reflect the season's early Classics and Ascot winners.  It is a long way to the end of the racing year.

Ghanaati is the only British-bred horse in the lead and is from Shadwell Stud owned by Ascot's leading owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

The other leading horses are from Ireland and France or Irish-bred.

British racing is certainly in the lead of international racing.
