American Trainer Steve Asmussen Suspended

American trainer Steve Asmussen has been suspended for six months in Texas for one of his horses testing positive for a banned painkiller and fined $1,500.  The state has a zero-tolerance policy for doping.

One has to wonder how such a fine and intelligent trainer could be so stupid.  He is appealing the decision and can train in the meantime.

Meanwhile, the media and public are taunting him and five-year-old Zenyatta's connections to arrange a match between her and his three-year-old star filly Rachel Alexandra (Megdaglia D'Oro USA) this year.

Zenyatta USA (Street Cry Ire), unbeaten in all of her starts against females, is likely to compete in either the Breeders' Cup Fillies and Mares which she won last year or the mixed-sex BC Classic on Santa Anita's AW ground.

Rachel Alexandra, who beat the colts in the second leg of the Triple Crown in the Preakness, has never competed on synthetic ground and her connections may avoid the BC as result.

Connections of both horses are avoiding any match commitment.
