Cartier Awards 2009 Update

The Cartier Awards entered their 19th year and are likened to the Oscars of the horse world.  The awards are determined by points earned in Pattern races combined with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists and votes from Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph readers. 

The awards will be presented at Claridge's Hotel in Mayfair, London, on Tuesday, November 17. 

Ghanaati (Giant's Causeway USA) is the clear leader of Cartier Three-Year-Old Fillies over Stacelita, Elusive Wave, Sariska and new entrant Midday

Sea The Stars Ire (Cape Cross Ire) is in a safe lead for Cartier Three-Year-Old Colts over Mastercraftsman, Fame Ane Glory, Le Havre and new entrant Rip Van Winkle.

Vision D'Etat Fr (Chichicastenango Fr) is leading Cartier Older Horse over Paco Boy, Fleeting Spirit, Goldikova and Ask.

Sea The Stars leads Ghanaati, Mastercraftsman, Fame An Glory and Vision D'Etat for the Cartier Horse of the Year.

Yeats, though retired, is Cartier Stayer Award leader over Patkai, Geordieland, Pointilliste and American

Fleeting Spirit is well ahead of Art Connoisseur, Scenic Blast, JJ The Jetplane and Main Aim for Cartier Sprinter Award.

Misheer leads Habaayib, Jealous Again, Special Duty and Walk On Bye for Cartier two-year-old filly.

Cartier two-year-old colts nominated are Alfred Nobel, Xtension and Air Chief Marshall.
