Italy Suspended from the European Breeders' Fund
The European Breeders' Fund has suspended the Italian EBF (FIA) over a long-standing problem about the application of EBF regulations to the Italian racing programme.
EBF's in Great Britain, France, Germany and Ireland agreed that Italian racing authorities failed to give a guarantee that EBF rules and regulations would be strictly applied.
FIA will have very restricted funds available to support the few EBF races in 2010 and 2011.
From the 2010 covering season, stallions based in Italy can pay EBF contributions to the EBF Co-ordinating Committee (and NOT to FIA) in order for progeny being able to compete in EBF races elsewhere in Europe.
Bottomline: Italy has been dropped as one of the five major racing countries in Europe by the other four for not complying with European racing rules and regulations.
