Keeneland At The Curragh
Keeneland Royal Whip Stakes (Group 2) 1m 2f, for three-year olds plus provided a one-two-three for Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle runners.
Dixie Music IRE (Montjeu IRE) led a fine pace over the Curragh's lush, winding course on yielding ground with Grand Admiral USA (Giant's Causeway USA) and Fame And Glory (Montjeu IRE) in second and third respectively.
As the race unfolded, the only change in order came when FAG took control after the bend to win by 3-1/2 lengths never extending himself.
This is his fourth victory this year with either the Irish Champion Stakes on September 4 or the Prix Foy on September 12 as his prep for the Arc de Triomphe.
He is favourite for the latter now that Harbinger has been injured; his odds remained the same after the Royal Whip.
It will take a Harbinger to beat this solid, progressive colt.
Keeneland Debutante Stakes (Group 2), 7f, for two-year-old fillies
Laughing Lashes USA (Mr Greeley USA) won her maiden third time out for trainer Jessica Harrington depriving Aidan O'Brien's more-experienced team of a three-group-race sweep.
She had the last laught on his twosome Misty For Me and Together (6.4 favourite) by one and three lengths respectively despite being swamped by O'Brien horses from the gate.
The tough little filly earned herself a 16.1 quote for the 1000 Guineas which should please her part owners jump jockey Ruby Walsh and his wife Gillian.
Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (Group 1), 6f, for two-year-old colts and fillies gave Aiden O'Brien another victory with Zoffany IRE (Dansili) and Richard Hannon one of his few losses of the season with favourite Strong Suit USA (Rahy USA).
Zoffany has won five of his six races with his only defeat coming from Strong Suit in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
This is only Strong Suit's third race and Hannon is convinced that his colt "was in trouble a furlong out". He will be scoped.
Futher, his jockey Richard Hughes said he was constantly harried on his outside by Jim Bolger's Glor Na Mara IRE (Leroidesanimaux BRZ) who was racing for the second time in his career.
Their battle let Zoffany whiz through them for victory.
Strong Suit ended a shoulder behind GNM who was a half length behind the winner.
GNM will target the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket October 16 and SS has dropped from 5-6.1 to 12.1 for the 2000 Guineas next May based on his loss.
Zoffany is quoted at 8.1 for the Guineas with other Hannon horses favoured.
Sadly, there is nothing new about 'harrying' in Irish races as one could see in the Keeneland Debutante Stakes. Fortunately, Laughing Lashes beat her bullies.
