Cartier's Latest List

The experts have spoken (below) in the Cartier Racing Awards and the public is now voting for the Awards which will be given later in November.

It will be interesting to see if the public springs some surprises.

Ahead for Cartier Horse Of The Year is Goldikova with Canford Cliffs nipping at her hoofs.

Goldikova also leads Twice Over by only four points in the Cartier Older Horse category.

She could easily be overturned in both categories which would be a real pity as she is by far the best horse all around.  On merit, she should win both.

Canford Cliffs is also leading the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt with Workforce in a poor last.  The public would have to have vote overwhelmingly in his favour to give him a chance for first.

Even if he wins the Breeders' Cup Turf, it will be too late for him in the vote.

Snow Fairy, English and Irish Oaks' winner, is out in front of all the Cartier Three-Year-Old Fillies.

Despite being retired, Starspangledbanner leads the Cartier Sprinters.

One of two changes from the beginning of the count earlier this year is Gentoo beating out Rite Of Passage for Cartier Stayer.

The second change is the appearance of Casamento, winner of the Racing Post Trophy and owned by Sheikh Mohammed, in the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt category.

He is tied with Dream AheadFrankel, Europe's highest rated two-year old, is tied with Patchwork and Zoffany for third.

Ballydoyle's Misty For Me trumped Godolphin's White Moonstone, Hooray and Laughing Lashes in last.

With the public vote closing before the Breeders' Cup, the final French races (see Roderic O'Connor), the Australian and Orient races, their winners will not be included.

Hence, not all the best horses and winners of the 2010 season will be considered.

This is the inherent flaw to the Awards which could easily be fixed by changing the Award date to include winners of the international races.
