Borel Blows A Gasket
The day started with warm applause for Calvin Borel as he entered the paddock before the first race. He is a native Kentuckian and its most successful jockey.
His first race did not go so well. In the Breeders' Cup Marathon, Javier Castellano on Prince Will I Am bumped into another horse almost unseating the jockey which smashed into Borel's mount A. U. Miner as he was making his run on the outside.
Borel's horse made third by a nose, but he felt they could have done better without the interference.
He chided Castellano in the Winner's Circle and a heated argument ended in punches thrown and police restraining both jockeys who were promptly sent to the Stewards.
The two have a history and it appears that Castellano will be suspended.
Sadly, it made all the headlines.
UPDATE: News of the fight got lots of media attention that worked 'for' racing not against.
UPDATE: Borel was fined $5,000 for the incident and Castellano $2,500 with 10-days' suspension for interference.
