O'Brien Avoids UK Ban
The British Horseracing Authority finally issued its long-awaited decision on the actions of Ballydoyle's trainer Aiden O'Brien and head lad Pat Keating in refusing to submit Cape Blanco to a second examination after CB won the Dante at York.
The horse was lame after the race and was seen by vets.
O'Brien was ordered to parade the horse a second time.
Instead, he refused and ordered Keating to return the horse for transport back to Ireland.
O'Brien was fined £10,400 for breaching rules and was warned that his runners could be restricted in the future should he repeat his conduct.
He also could be banned from UK racing.
He took full responsibility and exonerated the popular Keating.
Keating was criticised for not complying with Stewards' orders, but not fined.
O'Brien's penalty was appropriate and a powerful warning shot from Britain's governing body that it will not tolerate breaches of the rules by even the most powerful connections.
