Mucho Macho Man Triumphs In Belmont's Suburban

Chantal Sutherland may have won the Hollywood Gold Cup on Game On Dude, but her ex Mike Smith could have another potential spoiler for the Breeders' Cup Classic in Mucho Macho Man USA (Macho Uno USA).

MMM has finally reached the form most of us felt him capable of in the $350,000 Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, 1-1/8m on AW at Belmont Park, 1:09:53.

This is his fourth victory of five races since competing in all of last year's Triple Crown races.  He did not win any and suffered from an exceptional amount of bad luck.

Smith rode him for the first time and was left shocked at how impressive the horse is.  "Believe me, he just ran them off their feet."

He broke fast and was reined in to stalk Trickmeister until he turned for home.  Late-running Hymn Book came after him without a chance ending 2½ lengths behind the cruising MMM.

MMM's trainer, Kathy Ritvo, proudly pointed out that "He was running so easy you could tell his stride - he's got that big, long, huge stride and he still had horse left.  He ran fabulous today.  I am so proud of him."

His effort won him a 108 Beyer Speed, his career best, and he will next race in the Whitney which is a "Win and You're In" the Breeders' Cup Classic race, or the Woodward.  In any case, he will encounter tough competition.

This time no other horse got in his way.  Watch out Chantal:  Smith is sneaky and MMM is owed a big one.
